Claremorris (Clar Chlainne Mhuiris- The Plain of Maurice Prendergasts Clan), County Mayo is superbly located in the heart of the west on the N17 half way between Galway and Sligo and only 30 miles from the rugged Atlantic coastline surrounded by rolling plains, rivers and lakes and with a backdrop of Croagh Patrick and the Partry Mountains.

Knock International Airport is only 20 minutes drive away. There are flights to over 25 International destinations with daily flights to Stansted, Dublin, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham and other European destinations. In 2004 the Airport expects to carry over half a million passengers.

Claremorris has one of the largest railway stations outside of Dublin and is a hub station for passenger and freight travelling to Westport and Ballina.

Bus Eireann provides daily services to and from all of the major destinations out of Claremorris. Private operators provide services to Donegal, Galway and others.

Claremorris is a thriving market town with a strong agricultural hinterland whose origins go back over 1000 years. The last 10 years has seen the greatest change in the towns history and the population of the town and its hinterland has increased to over 10,000 persons. The town itself has a population of c. 3,000.

Claremorris offers all the amenities and services and modern conveniences you expect from a developing town. Public investment has transformed the infrastructure and private investment in commercial, industrial and residential sectors have taken place in tandem. There is a great sense of community spirit and pride which is reflected by the initiatives and work undertaken by various community groups over many years.

The town is well served by 3 national schools, 2 secondary schools and there are 2 third level colleges at nearby Castlebar and Galway. Numerous sporting clubs abound.

Shopping is a joy with retail outlets ranging from supermarkets, convenience stores, household goods, fashion, sports goods, hair and beauty salons, florists, jewellery and gift shops and after working up an appetite sample the best local produce in the many fine restaurants and bars in the town that cater for every taste. Annual events such as the Drama Festival, The Agricultural Show and Summer Festival draw visitors from far and wide.

Other visitor attractions are within easy reach of Claremorris such as the world famous trout fishing on Loughs Carra, Mask and Corrib. Cong, scene of the film The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O Hara and Ashford Castle visited by Presidents, Prime Ministers and Film Stars is only half an hour away.

Galway city, the tourist mecca of the west all year round is just 1 hour to the south and hosts an exciting Horse Racing Festival every July and not forgetting beautiful Connemara with some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.
